Tweaking AttackWatch

I've had a world of fun with the Obama administration's various snitch sites.

Disgusting and backward as the concept is, they have been fun to tweak.  They have now made this amazing practice part of President Obama's re-election campaign in a couple of different venues.  It is amazing to me that even the most horse-patootie-smoking contingent of political cynics would focus so completely on portraying themselves as world-class chumps.  (Yes, it also makes me furious.)

Heres's my contribution to AttackWatch.com, just posted a few minutes ago.

"This website itself, AttackWatch.com, constitutes an attack on the present administration.  It is obviously designed to make the President, his staff, and any involved agencies look paranoid, foolish, thoughtless, megalomaniacal, and utterly removed from the realities of American political life and conduct.

I hate to see my government acting this un-American.  Please do something about it."

What to look for?

Michael Ledeen has some useful thoughts to fling our ideas up against.  (Odd, but no matter how I reformulate that sentence I wind up ending it with at least one preposition.)  http://pajamasmedia.com/michaelledeen/2011/08/09/the-next-president/

I check in with Mr. Ledeen for his perspective on the Middle East and its confluence with American politics.  See what you think!

I am trying to pull together my current convictions on religion in the search for candidates.  More later!

"The horror...the horror..."

It’s presidential election season, and I’m not sure yet about precisely what I want to see in the next President.  But I can sure as heck list things I don’t want to see in the rest of us, ever again:

·      Swooning celebrities “pledging” some sort of allegiance to a candidate/president.

·      Children singing/chanting hymns to a candidate/president.

·      Formerly swooning celebrities asking a president, “Where is the LOVE?” during Super Bowl Halftime.

·      An otherwise normal person attributing to a candidate/president the power—publicly, to a reporter, cameras rolling!—to relieve her of everyday concerns such as paying her mortgage and filling her gas tank.

·      An otherwise normal person supplicating a candidate/president—publicly, at a town hall, cameras rolling!—to get her a house.

·      Otherwise normal people attributing to a candidate/president—publicly, to a reporter, cameras rolling!—the dispensation of cash from a “stash” to cover their earthly needs.

Lots of reasons why these occurred—and they were news stories, YouTube posts, and/or (in the case of the swooning celebrities) promotions meant for public consumption.

Now, these were not caused by, or the fault of, President Obama.  His candidacy and election were viewed, however, as suitable occasions for these unabashed displays of cultivated helplessness, an illness that has been incubating in this country for many decades.

Hmm, given the above, perhaps I can enumerate one thing I do positively want, to the extent possible:  I want the legislative and political framework that has prolonged this illness taken down, not propped up.  I'll be able to enthusiastically consider voting for someone who shows me he/she is serious about this.
